We believe that the planning process for any new development effort should include the people that will be affected by the development. This includes area residents, government agencies, emergency and medical service providers and local businesses. As a way to reach the community and understand the needs and wants of Cecil County, we have attended several conferences and information sessions, met with many community organizations, and residents and made several presentations. We also held a 5 day charrette in Perryville in March 2008. Throughout this week the public was invited to attend several planning sessions, workshops and meetings during which their input in the design was welcome. The ideas we received were creative, innovative and extremely helpful in creating our current plan. Through future community outreach efforts we hope to gain information that will give us the opportunity to improve the quality of life in Cecil County.

Thank you so much for being a part of the 11th Annual Wade In on June 7, 2008. We had gorgeous weather and a great turn out of about 150 visitors for the festivities. Whether you grilled hot dogs, loaded canoes, face painted, led activities or joined us as an exhibitor, your time and enthusiasm were vital to the success of the Wade In.

Together, we are helping to increase awareness of water quality issues in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Thanks again, and hope to see you at next year's Wade In!

Sincerely,

The Staff of the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center
